So, we camped last weekend. Cub/Boy Scout Camporee. It was alot of fun, Boo’s best pal and cubmate was able to attend this one which was really awesome. They never seem to tire of each other. I am however, slightly baffled at the amount of crap gear a small family of four needs to get through a weekend of camping. I always associated camping with ‘roughing it”. No niceities, no conveniences, sleeping bags, and the rest of the ideal. Holy canoli, my Expedition was FULL of stuff. Smed even left after setting the tent up to go borrow a couple other things from my parents (we were only camping a few miles from home. I know, why even go then when your air conditioned comfie bed was calling). Too much stuff. Going camping is too much work. Shouldn’t we just be eating leaves and twigs and sleeping under the stars? I want to know how these mountain trekkers manage with a back pack only. Thats all, one lone pack that they somehow manage to shove a tent and sleeping bag into. What do they eat? Do they wear the same smelly clothes the whole trip? Where do they pack the air mattress? Maybe I should take some tips from Survivorman (discovery channel) so I can pack lighter!
